2009 Re-Max Long Drive Championships.

Baden Waiwai (known as the ‘Big Unit’), from Wairoa, Gisborne won the 2009 RE/MAX Long Drive Championship of New Zealand on Sunday 27th September at the Avondale Race Course in Auckland. Waiwai, standing over 6ft 8” is a legend in the sport having being ranked fifth in the world. Until now however the New Zealand title has eluded the gentle giant. On the way to his win, Waiwai, hit 285m to be seeded 4th for the match play rounds. In his first
round Waiwai drove 306m to beat Lee Edwards from Miramar who only managed a drive of 293m.Drives of 300m and 281m against Mac Eparaima (Wainuiomata) and Cameron Laing (Kaingaroa Forest) got Waiwai into the final against his well known long drive adversary, Davyn Nola.
